Eliciting Multiple Choices: a Theoretical Analysis of Incentives in Experiments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Experiments elicit choices from a given set of decision problems. When multiple decision problems are offered in the same experiment, however, behavior in one decision problem may be distorted by the choices made in others. In our terminology, this is a violation of incentive compatibility. We show that, when preferences respect stochastic dominance, the Random Decision Selection (RDS) mechanism that pays for one randomly-selected decision is essentially the only incentive compatible mechanism. If an experiment pays for multiple decisions, then a ‘no complementarities’ condition must be assumed. We summarize the implications for experimental design in Section II.

Finding efficient frontier of process parameters for plastic injection molding
Product quality for plastic injection molding process is highly related with the settings for its process parameters. Additionally, the product quality is not simply based on a single quality index, but multiple interrelated quality indices. To find the settings for the process parameters such that the multiple quality indices can be simultaneously optimized is becoming a research issue and ...
متن کاملThe Health Policy Process in Vietnam: Going Beyond Kingdon’s Multiple Streams Theory; Comment on “Shaping the Health Policy Agenda: The Case of Safe Motherhood Policy in Vietnam”
This commentary reflects upon the article along three broad lines. It reflects on the theoretical choices and omissions, particularly highlighting why it is important to adapt the multiple streams framework (MSF) when applying it in a socio-political context like Vietnam’s. The commentary also reflects upon the analytical threads tackled by Ha et al; for instance, it highlights the opportunitie...
متن کاملPerceived Pragmatic Transferability of Persian L1 Refusal Strategies
Investigating transfer of one’s pragmatic knowledge of first language to his second or foreign language has been one of the areas of interest for researchers. However, there are contradictory results even within the scarce studies which have addressed transferability. This study was an attempt to investigate perceived pragmatic transferability of L1 refusal strategies by Persian EFL learners. S...
متن کاملPriority Setting Meets Multiple Streams: A Match to Be Further Examined?; Comment on “Introducing New Priority Setting and Resource Allocation Processes in a Canadian Healthcare Organization: A Case Study Analysis Informed by Multiple Streams Theory”
With demand for health services continuing to grow as populations age and new technologies emerge to meet health needs, healthcare policy-makers are under constant pressure to set priorities, ie, to make choices about the health services that can and cannot be funded within available resources. In a recent paper, Smith et al apply an influential policy studies framework – Kingdon’s multiple str...
متن کاملA positive analysis of financial incentives for cadaveric organ donation.
Financial incentives of various kinds have been suggested to alleviate the chronic shortage of transplantable organs in the United States. This paper analyzes the possible consequences of financial incentives on organ supply. We show that under current practice and current law (which are not the same), inducements to donate organs or to register as an organ donor may lead to a decline in the su...
